Corbett Heights Updates

Greetings Neighbors -
(Apologies if you're receiving this twice - I'm combing 2 lists.  If you're on the Al's Park list and would like to receive neighborhood updates, let me know and Ill add your name.)

Apologies for being out of touch for a while.  I've been moving my parents into assisted living in Florida - they're 94 & 95 years old.  An all-consuming experience, to say the least.

Traffic Calming
First, there is going to be a meeting on how to deal with the traffic situation on 17th Street.  When the traffic median went in above Corbin Steps MTA cut corners due to budgetary restrictions.  Other than the yellow paint that surrounded the median, no other measures were taken - no reflectors and no sign.  There were numerous accidents - mostly prior to the last improvements, but they continued.
I spoke with one of the supervisors at MTA and requested that a meeting be planned between MTA and members of the immediate area.  They agreed and set a date.  Unfortunately they forgot to ask me and I am unable to attend.  If you're interested, here's the notice that I just received:

CORBETT SLOPE GARDEN DAY THIS SAT!

Sorry for the late notice, but we'll be having a work day at the Slope this coming Sat - May 18th - from 11AM - 2PM.
We'll have snacks, drinks and tools - but feel free to bring your favorite clippers, gloves.....
We'll have a few plants to plant, now that we have a brand new irrigation system set up by Chris McGuire!
Stop by for the whole time or for some part of it - or just to say hello.  I can also give you the mini tour (good, sturdy shoes recommended).
If you'd like to help set up let me know.

Hope to see you Saturday!

- Gary

Corbett Heights Meeting Tomorrow

Hope you can make it to the meeting tomorrow!  Here's a copy of the meeting notice which lists some of the things we'll be covering:
(BY THE WAY - THE MEETINGS WILL NOW START AT 7PM)

!Corbett Hts Meeting next Thurs!

Hi All -

Next Thursday, April 25th, we'll be having our quarterly general meeting.  It will be in the usual place - above BofA on Castro and 18th Streets.  The only difference is that we'll start at 7PM instead of the usual 7:30.  A number of people have requested an early starting time.  I'll be sending out a copy of the flier tomorrow, but here's a sample of what will be discussed:

Nick Perry from the Planning Dept. and Dustin White from SFMTA will discuss the upcoming Castro sidewalk widening project.  They'll have images of plan options.  This will be a wonderful and welcome  improvement to the whole neighborhood - functionally and aesthetically.

Someone from Recology (Sunset Scavenger) will be on hand to tell us about and answer any questions about the upcoming rate increases, and how we can mitigate them.

A couple of years ago someone spoke to us about CleanPowerSF which will begin in SF later this year - and provide 100% renewable energy for residents and businesses.  It will cost more, but there is an option to opt out.  Someone from CleanPowerSF will be at the meeting to answer any questions about the service.

We'll also have updates on all of the construction projects and other neighborhood news.

So please try and attend!

Gary

(If you are able to help distribute fliers, please let me know - I can drop them off at your door.)

Ord St. Attempted Break-in

From an Ord St. neighbor:

We wanted to share these pictures-- this guy was in our backyard on March 15 at 2:30 am in the morning trying to get into our back door-- the only access is by climbing over the fence.

We have shared the pictures with the SF police; if anyone sees him please call the police

Daffodils on Corbett Slope!

Hi Everyone -
During the next week or so please check out the daffodils on the Corbett Slope.  A couple of months ago we planted 400, and they're popping up all over the place! A true harbinger of Spring.
By the way, this is our park.  There have been a few glitches in setting up the irrigation, and in getting the required survey from the DPW engineers so that we can plan some structural improvements, but those are being resolved - however slowly.  If you have any interest in being involved in any capacity (if I don't already have your name), please let me know.  And - if you would like to go inside and see parts of the Slope not so visible from the street, please let me know!
