*** PRESS RELEASE *** SUPERVISOR WIENER TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION ADDRESSING CONSTRUCTION OF MONSTER HOMES

Hi Everyone -
Good News!
3 of us from the Planning and Land Use Committee of EVNA - representing Corbett Heights and Eureka Valley - worked with Supervisor Wiener's office, providing input on his interim controls legislation that hopefully will go into effect in a couple of weeks.  
You may have seen the article in the Chronicle this morning:
If you notice the map, it includes all of Corbett Heights, with the exception of the 400 block of Corbett.  
We initially met with a group of very concerned neighbors on States, Ord Street and Ord Court.  Their (our) neighborhood was basically being pillaged by developers.  
Supervisor Wiener is interested in increasing the housing supply in SF, but what's been going on lately in our neighborhood has not increased housing.  Instead it has taken away smaller, more affordable dwellings and replaced them with single-family oversized behemoths.  
This legislation will keep ANY new project, or one in the works to a maximum of 55% of lot coverage.  Period!  
The proposal to replace 2800 square feet of housing with 32,000 square feet on the lot between Roosevelt, 17th Street and Upper Terrace will now need to abide by these new restrictions.  This project was the reason we redrew the map to include all of Mt. Olympus.  It would have been the largest project our neighborhood has seen in many decades.  
Development and speculation will not end, but thanks to Supervisor Wiener, future development should be within reason.
THERE WILL BE A HEARING - POSSIBLY MARCH 9 - WHEN THIS LEGISLATION WILL BE VOTED ON.  I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE EXACT TIME AND PLACE WHEN IT'S DETERMINED.  IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND TO SHOW SUPPORT IT WILL BE EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
