Corbett Heights Neighbors: Update

View this email in your browser
Corbett Heights Neighbors

Dear Neighbors,

A lot of changes in Corbett Heights…..

First, I'd like to mention that I'll be chairing the Corbett Heights Neighbors' General Membership Meeting again after missing the last two.  We have a new meeting day:  the third Monday of January, April, July and October.  Our next meeting will be Monday, July 15th, same time, same place. (Above the BofA on Castro/18th Streets, 7 – 8:30 PM.)

What may be confusing at first is that a few members of the old board of CHN will be having meetings as well.  You may be hearing from them about this.  You are welcome to attend one or both or neither.

If you have subscribed to CHN through PayPal, and would like to continue to do so, you won't need to do anything.

For those of you who are new to the neighborhood – or to CHN, here's a bit of information about me:
  • I founded Corbett Heights Neighbors in 2004;
  • Realizing that our neighborhood wasn't quite Upper Market, or Lower Twin Peaks, I came up with the name Corbett Heights, feeling it would better identify our neighborhood;
  • I chaired every meeting during the last 15 years, with the exception of the last two.
  • I fought to save what is now the Corbett Slope (in the 300 block of Corbett) from what was slated to become 4 monster homes (it would benefit from a bit of TLC right now, but there are some pretty substantial plans down the road);
  • I was the driving force behind getting almost all of Corbett Heights and some of Corona Heights designated a Special Use District, meaning that developers of large homes have some serious hoops to jump through before getting the go-ahead in our neighborhood.This designation is the envy of neighborhoods across the city.
..............................................

Supervisor Rafael Mandelman will be joining us at our July meeting.  We'll also be discussing Scott Wiener's ill-fated legislation: SB 50.  And, as I was the one who, for four years had been negotiating an agreement with the developers of the Mt. Olympus project, I will describe to you what actually happened: what we gained and what we lost.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the neighborhood, the organization or if you need help with anything neighborhood-related.

And last, WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP.  If you are interested in working with me and others on neighborhood issues (we have an informal meeting every two months), and/or if you're available to distribute fliers prior to our meeting, let me know.  It would be greatly appreciated!!

- Gary Weiss
